Regional Rail Manager, Laing O’Rourke

A Civil Engineer with more than 18 years of rail, Construction and utilities sector design and construction experience and the current Rail Manager for Laing O’Rourke’s Western Region. As a highly-respected senior rail sector leader for more than 12 years, Gary has delivered astute, collaborative leadership and implemented new construction initiatives, driving value engineering processes for complex rail projects. Recognised as a flexible and motivational leader, he has a proven track record in delivering innovative solutions while developing strong, productive relationships with clients and their stakeholders.

Since moving to Australia in 2010, he has managed more than 300km of new rail infrastructure to support growth programmes of large mining companies in WA and delivered projects with a total CAPEX budget in excess of $450m.He was also actively involved in collaborating with both BHP Billiton and Fortescue Metals throughout Laing O’Rourke’s rail maintenance programmes.

As Programme Manager in the UK, Gary delivered the first GSM-Railway Infrastructure, which included 2,500 telecommunication masts across some 16,000km railway infrastructure.
